Course Lecturer – Black Canada (CANS 415)

About the role

The McGill Institute for the Study of Canada seeks a qualified Course Lecturer to teach CANS 415 – Black Canada. This 3‑credit course runs from late August to early December 2026 and focuses on the politics and sociology of the Caribbean diaspora, Caribbean migration to Canada, and related political issues.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver weekly lectures on Mondays from 2:35 pm to 5:25 pm in Ferrier Building, room 105.
• Prepare and update course outlines, syllabi, and teaching materials.
• Assess student work, assign grades, and provide feedback.
• Maintain records of teaching evaluations and, if available, incorporate them into future course improvements.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a relevant field (PhD preferred) with a specialization in Canadian studies, Caribbean studies, politics, or sociology.
• Demonstrated teaching experience on topics related to the Caribbean diaspora, migration, or Canadian politics.
• Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work on the McGill campus in Quebec.

Required skills

• Strong command of English for both verbal and written communication.
• Ability to develop academic course materials and assessments.
