Assistant Vice-President, Research Strategy and Services

About the role

The University seeks an accomplished leader to serve as Assistant Vice‑President, Research Strategy and Services. Reporting to the Vice‑President, Research and Innovation, the AVP will shape the institution’s research agenda, oversee the full research funding lifecycle, and drive a new integrated Research Ecosystem model.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for research development, sponsored research services, and institutional research planning across all faculties, hospitals and research institutes.
• Lead the design and execution of major national and international research initiatives and funding competitions.
• Oversee a complex portfolio that supports researchers throughout the pre‑award and post‑award phases, ensuring efficient, researcher‑centered services.
• Champion the transformation to an integrated Research Ecosystem, fostering collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Represent the University with governments, funding agencies, industry partners and peer institutions to advance research impact and reputation.

Required profile

• Graduate degree with progressive senior leadership experience in research administration, strategy or development within a large, complex organization.
• Deep knowledge of the Canadian research funding landscape and experience leading institutional research initiatives.
• Proven ability to navigate complexity, drive organizational effectiveness and build high‑performing teams.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
