About the role
The Co-operators group of companies is seeking a Counsel for Property & Casualty (P&C) Litigation. This full‑time, hybrid position will handle a range of bodily injury and property claims, providing legal advice and support to agents, insured clients, and internal staff.
Key responsibilities
- Manage lower to moderate complexity litigation files from referral through resolution, including assessments, legal research, and participation in examinations, mediations, motions, appeals, pre‑trials, and trials.
- Collaborate with claims colleagues to develop strategies and provide expert opinions.
- Identify when expert involvement or senior counsel escalation is required and communicate findings to AVPs or VP, General Counsel.
- Deliver general legal guidance across the business, focusing on risk mitigation and process improvement.
- Provide training and support to claims personnel and assist senior counsel on complex cases.
- Recommend procedural enhancements to reduce financial and legal exposure.
