Controller – Financial Operations

About the role

The Controller will lead accounting and financial operations for Cape Bald Packers, a leading seafood processor in Atlantic Canada. Reporting to senior leadership, the role focuses on cost accounting, inventory analysis, and operational finance to drive profitability and strategic growth.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day accounting, month‑end and year‑end close, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.
• Manage and improve cost accounting processes for seafood processing, including inventory valuation, labour costing, yield analysis, overhead allocation and manufacturing variances.
• Provide detailed cost and operational reporting to support production decisions and margin improvement.
• Partner with operations teams to identify process‑optimization and cost‑control opportunities.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow management and financial planning across multiple facilities.
• Coordinate external audit activities and ensure robust financial controls.
• Lead ERP optimization, automation initiatives and reporting enhancements.
• Mentor and develop the finance and accounting team, fostering a collaborative culture.

Required profile

• CPA designation.
• Proven experience in a manufacturing or processing environment.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
