Controller (Finance & Accounting)

About the role

The Controller will lead all finance and accounting functions for Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind, a national non‑profit. This full‑time, on‑site position works five days a week with occasional evenings and weekends to support the organization’s 365‑day operations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and cash management.
• Prepare, analyze and distribute monthly financial reports to the COO and monitor cash flow.
• Complete monthly tax remittances and ensure timely filing of all returns.
• Coordinate audits, support forecasting, and maintain internal controls and documentation.
• Oversee donations bookkeeping, payroll processing (ADP, EzLabor) and property‑related financial tracking.
• Manage finance staff, onboard new employees, and assist with special projects for the COO and Financial Consultant.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business with a CPA designation.
• Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a Canadian charity.
• Experience with financial audits, compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Strong communication, customer service and time‑management abilities.
• Comfortable working in an environment with dogs and able to provide proof of recent tetanus vaccination.
