Construction Superintendent – Calgary

About the role

The Superintendent leads and coordinates subcontractors and labourers on a commercial or institutional construction site in Calgary. This on‑site leadership role ensures daily operations are performed safely, on schedule, and in line with company objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safety leadership through the Bird Safety Program and monitor safety performance of field staff and subcontractors.
• Maintain effective relationships with field staff and subcontractors to promote morale and teamwork.
• Supervise, coach, and evaluate site team members, completing performance reviews on time.
• Assist in developing and refining the project schedule.
• Administer contracts, sub‑contracts, purchase orders, site instructions and change notices.
• Identify design deficiencies, schedule interruptions, and other project issues; collaborate with the Project Manager to resolve them.
• Monitor subcontractor performance for safety, scope compliance, quality of workmanship and materials.
• Ensure sufficient manpower to meet safety, schedule and quality objectives.
• Maintain daily paperwork, including field reports, safety inspections and schedule updates.

Required profile

• 5‑10 years of supervisory experience in general contracting, preferably on commercial or institutional projects valued between $10‑25 M.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large field teams and manage subcontractors.
• Trade background in carpentry or related construction trade; Gold Seal Certification is a plus.
• Strong problem‑solving, safety, cost‑control and quality‑management skills.
• Ability to read and interpret contract drawings and specifications.
