Construction Manager

About the role

Hargrove Engineers is seeking a Construction Manager to lead a 10‑month industrial construction project for a client in Toronto. The role focuses on day‑to‑day field permitting, safety oversight, and coordination of multidisciplinary construction activities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily permitting activities for civil, mechanical, electrical, and maintenance services.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager and maintenance teams to assess constructability of project ideas.
• Oversee construction projects from start to completion, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate logistics with vendors and supervise 10‑30 on‑site personnel.
• Monitor contractor performance, verify workmanship, and conduct daily safety audits.
• Enforce EH&S guidelines, correct unsafe conditions, and manage work permits (hot work, confined space, lock‑out/tag‑out, excavation, scaffold).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience (preferred).
• Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of construction practices across mechanical, electrical, and civil disciplines.
• Familiarity with building codes, ASME, NEC, MSHA and OSHA regulations.
• High safety focus and ability to enforce site safety standards.
• Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and email.
