Construction Estimator (Vancouver)

About the role

The Estimator will join Buttcon’s pre‑construction team in Vancouver, reporting to the Director of Pre‑Construction & Estimating. This position is responsible for delivering accurate cost assessments that support project planning and decision‑making across a variety of construction projects.

Key responsibilities

• Review architectural and engineering plans, specifications, and other project documents to understand the scope of work.
• Identify and quantify the materials, labour, and equipment needed for each project.
• Determine potential risks, challenges, and variables that could impact project costs.
• Utilise specialised cost‑estimating software and tools to calculate accurate estimates.
• Break down project components into individual tasks and activities for precise cost calculation.
• Research current market prices for materials, labour rates, and equipment rental costs.
• Consider location, project size, complexity, and timeline when preparing estimates.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors to gather necessary information.
• Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure accurate pricing of materials and supplies.
• Prepare comprehensive and competitive bids, including direct costs, indirect costs, overhead, and profit margins.
• Maintain organized records of estimates, bids, and related documentation, updating them as project details evolve.

Required profile

• Report directly to the Director of Pre‑Construction & Estimating.
• Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, architects, and subcontractors.
• Strong analytical mindset with meticulous attention to detail.

Required skills

• Ability to research and analyse market prices for materials, labour, and equipment.
• Experience breaking down projects into tasks for accurate cost calculation.
