About the role

Nunavut Legal Aid is seeking experienced civil litigation and family law lawyers to join its team as staff counsel or private‑panel members. The role involves providing legal‑aid representation to qualified individuals across Nunavut while integrating Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles into practice.

Key responsibilities

• Represent clients in family law matters and civil litigation cases.
• Deliver culturally competent services that respect Inuit values.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team serving all Nunavut communities.
• Maintain case files, prepare legal documents, and appear in court as required.
• Participate in professional development and community outreach activities.

Required profile

• At least three years of practice in family law or civil litigation.
• Qualified to be called to the Nunavut Bar.
• Strong commitment to social justice and teamwork.
• Willingness to relocate to Nunavut for staff positions (panel assignments may be remote).

Required skills

• Legal expertise in family law and civil litigation.
• Understanding of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles and culturally competent service delivery.
