Chief Legal Advisor – Personal & Commercial Compliance

About the role

National Bank is seeking a Chief Legal Advisor to lead its Personal and Commercial Compliance team. In this senior position you will shape regulatory strategy, manage risk, and ensure the bank’s activities meet both Canadian and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic advice on international regulatory compliance and recommend actions aligned with business goals.
• Lead complex mandates, define regulatory positions, and influence senior management on risk matters.
• Develop, evolve, and oversee compliance and regulatory supervision programs.
• Prepare strategic materials for decision‑making bodies and ensure accurate reporting.
• Analyze regulatory impacts on financing activities and propose tailored solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law with 7‑10 years of legal and compliance experience.
• Membership in the Barreau du Québec, Chambre des notaires, or another Canadian bar association.
• Proven experience in regulatory compliance or risk management within financial services.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian banking regulations and familiarity with international frameworks.
• Fluency in French and English.
