Casualty Specialist - Bodily Injury Claims (Hybrid)

About the role

Aviva Canada is looking for an Intermediate/Senior Casualty Specialist to handle bodily injury (BI) claims in its Protect Claims department, some of which are in litigation, and to deliver outstanding service to customers. The role is hybrid and involves investigating, evaluating, negotiating and settling BI claims in line with Aviva's procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and confirm insurance coverage using knowledge of relevant case law and a thorough understanding of policy wording.
• Investigate, evaluate and settle a diverse portfolio of litigated and non-litigated claims.
• Develop a strategy to resolve files and, when needed, train independent adjusters.
• Set file reserves on time and accurately, in line with company protocols.
• Control expenses through proactive handling techniques.
• On litigated files, work with defence counsel to reach timely, cost-effective resolutions.
• Maintain clear documentation of file activity and provide excellent customer and partner communication.

Required profile

• 2-10 years' experience handling bodily injury claims, including general liability/premises operations and auto tort liability.
• Post-secondary education in a related field; CIP designation is an asset.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, with strong negotiation, analytical and organizational skills.

• Third-party liability claims (bodily injury, property and auto physical damage litigation)
• Mediation, pre-trial and trial experience
• Excellent written and oral communication
