Casual TypeWell Transcriber for Post‑Secondary Students

About the role

Langara College is seeking a casual TypeWell Transcriber to provide real‑time communication access for deaf and hard‑of‑hearing post‑secondary students. You will work directly with students and faculty, converting spoken language into accurate, meaning‑for‑meaning transcripts using TypeWell software.

Key responsibilities

• Operate TypeWell software on a laptop to produce live transcripts viewed by students on a second screen.
• Maintain a typing speed of at least 60 words per minute with high accuracy.
• Collaborate with the student’s educational team to ensure seamless communication during lectures and classroom activities.
• Adapt to flexible, on‑call schedules based on student and departmental needs.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of post‑secondary education and a completed TypeWell Certificate.
• At least two years of relevant transcription experience, preferably in a higher‑education setting.
• Strong English writing skills, including grammar, spelling, and sentence structure.
• Ability to focus for extended periods and work independently or as part of a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with TypeWell transcription software.
• Competence in Microsoft Office applications.
• Effective use of a laptop computer and peripheral equipment.
