CAD Designer – Rail and Transit

About the role

WSP is seeking a CAD Designer to join its Rail and Transit team in the Greater Toronto Area. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, you will work on heavy and light rail transit design, provide guidance to teammates, and act as technical lead on multiple projects.

Key responsibilities

• Create and edit 2D/3D drawings following project‑specific CAD/BIM standards and transit authority requirements.
• Draft discipline‑specific drawings, generate sections, schedules and schematics from general arrangements.
• Support CAD/BIM tasks such as guideway layouts, system duct banks, facility layouts and structural sections.
• Integrate system interface elements (communication equipment, power feeds, cabling) into civil base models.
• Participate in QA/QC reviews, coordinate across disciplines, and provide reference drawings for construction meetings.
• Mentor junior CAD technicians, monitor drawing quality and identify process improvements.

Required profile

• Diploma in civil engineering technology or related field from an accredited institution.
• 2‑5 years of related experience; new graduates are also encouraged to apply.
• Understanding of CAD practices for transportation infrastructure, especially LRT or commuter rail.
• Experience with roadway and railway crossing design is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Civil 3D, Revit, AutoCAD, Bentley Inroads or Railtrack.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple design packages.
• Strong technical, interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
