About the role
The Buyer supports the Surrey School District by managing the procurement of a wide range of goods, materials, services and equipment needed to keep our schools operating efficiently. This position works closely with internal departments and external suppliers to ensure timely, cost‑effective purchases that meet the district’s standards.
Key responsibilities
- Review purchasing requisitions and clarify requirements with requestors.
- Write product descriptions and specifications for tendering.
- Develop and issue requests for quotations (RFQs) and manage the tender process.
- Obtain, evaluate and compare supplier quotations.
- Prepare and place purchase orders, monitor order status and expedite deliveries.
- Provide advice on purchasing policies, market sources and best practices.
- Oversee the automated tender system for designated items.
- Guide clerical staff involved in related procurement activities.
- Ensure deadlines are met and user needs are satisfied.
Required profile
- Strong understanding of procurement processes and purchasing policies.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal users and external suppliers.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment within defined parameters.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational abilities.
