Business Development Manager

About the role

The Business Development Manager is an external‑facing position responsible for expanding and deepening UBC's network of employers, industry professionals, and alumni. The role creates co‑op, internship, project‑based, and full‑time employment opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students across most faculties.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, cultivate and secure co‑op, internship, project‑based and new‑graduate employment opportunities by engaging employers in priority sectors.
• Conduct market, sector and competitive analyses to track hiring trends, emerging skill requirements and field shifts.
• Provide evidence‑based feedback to academic leaders, program directors and curriculum designers on industry expectations and workforce needs.
• Contribute labour‑market insights to enhance advising practices, career‑education programming and employer‑relations strategies.
• Build, strengthen and manage relationships with employers, industry associations, community partners and professional networks at local, provincial and national levels.
• Conduct field‑based outreach through company visits, sales calls, networking events, trade shows, panels and conferences.

Required profile

• Experience in employer outreach, partnership development or business development within a higher‑education context.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret labour‑market data and translate findings into actionable strategies.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with senior executives, hiring managers and academic stakeholders.
