Building Operator – Preventive Maintenance Specialist

About the role
The Building Operator will ensure the reliable operation and upkeep of WoodGreen’s property portfolio. Working onsite at 185 Cummer Ave, the role combines preventive maintenance, repairs, and coordination with contractors to keep building systems running smoothly.
Key responsibilities
- Perform skilled and semi‑skilled installation, operation, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structural, life‑safety, and security systems.
- Inspect building components, replace filters, and carry out drywalling and painting as needed.
- Operate tools such as multi‑testers, amp probes, power tools, and a John Deere garden tractor.
- Provide accurate reports to management and contractors, and recommend improvements to building systems.
- Assist tradespeople and coordinate with external contractors during routine work and emergencies.
Required profile
- Secondary school completion with a technician qualification in a building trade or equivalent experience.
- Experience maintaining large, computerized commercial buildings.
- Knowledge of modern air‑distribution and air‑conditioning systems.
- Experience with pumps and large air‑handling equipment.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence.
Required skills
- HVAC system maintenance (make‑up air units, rooftop units, chillers, fan coils, heat pumps, boilers).
- Plumbing repair (toilets, sinks, valves, pumps, pipework).
- Electrical testing and troubleshooting using multi‑testers and amp probes.
- Carpentry work (doors, countertops, cupboards, windows, flooring).
- Security hardware maintenance (keys, locks, door hardware).
- Operation of a John Deere garden tractor.
- Preventive maintenance planning and building‑systems inspection.
