Board Director (Volunteer) – National Housing Organization

About the role

The Board of Directors provides strategic oversight and governance leadership for a national organization dedicated to preserving and strengthening housing outcomes across Canada. This volunteer position offers the opportunity to shape public‑interest investment strategies and ensure accountability to the organization’s mission.

Key responsibilities

• Guide overall organizational strategy and long‑term vision.
• Oversee risk management, financial stewardship, and investment oversight.
• Ensure the organization remains accountable to its public‑interest mandate.
• Participate in virtual board meetings (currently monthly, moving to quarterly).
• Contribute constructively within a collaborative governance environment.

Required profile

• Senior leadership and governance experience on public, private, not‑for‑profit, Crown agency, pension, financial institution, housing, Indigenous, community or similar boards.
• Demonstrated strategic perspective, sound judgment, and commitment to accountability.
• Ability to work effectively in ambiguous situations and scale organizations.
• Experience in housing, finance, investment oversight, public policy, risk management, Indigenous affairs or community development is valued.
