Black Initiatives Coordinator, Interior

About the role

The Southern Medical Program seeks a Black Initiatives Coordinator for the Interior region to lead recruitment, outreach, and support activities for Black medical students. This role works within the Faculty of Medicine’s distributed MD program, fostering an inclusive environment and helping students succeed from admission through their studies.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate recruitment and admissions support for Black applicants through the Black Student MD Admissions Pathway and the general MDUP pathway.
• Provide personalized, longitudinal support to Black medical students, addressing academic and wellbeing needs.
• Contribute to quality‑improvement initiatives and develop communication strategies to promote the program.
• Engage with community partners, Indigenous territories, and local health networks to build outreach pipelines.
• Collaborate with provincial and local teams, including Interior Health and UBC Okanagan, to ensure seamless program delivery.

• Lived experience and professional background that align with equity, diversity, and inclusion goals.
• Demonstrated experience in student recruitment, outreach, or support within an academic or health‑care setting.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse communities and stakeholders.
• Commitment to fostering a supportive environment for Black medical students.
