BIPOC Youth Advocate – Support Services

About the role

The Calgary John Howard Society seeks a BIPOC Youth Advocate to join its Youth Advocacy and Support Services team. Working collaboratively with staff and community partners, you will help youth aged 12‑24 build resilience, develop positive life skills, and successfully reintegrate into the community after incarceration.

Key responsibilities

• Advocate for youth with community services such as education, employment, justice, leisure, and cultural connections.
• Support healthy family and peer relationships to promote stability.
• Assist youth with short‑ and long‑term goal planning.
• Help clients access programs and resources that foster positive engagement and growth.

Required profile

• Strong case‑management and social‑work skills.
• Crisis prevention and intervention expertise.
• Understanding of the Youth Criminal Justice System.
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
• Post‑secondary education in a relevant field (e.g., Human Services, Child and Youth Care, Social Work).
• Current Criminal Record Check (CPIC) and Child Intervention Check completed within the past three months.
• Brain Story Certification considered an asset.
