Backend Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to design, build and maintain the backend services, APIs and data‑intensive systems that power Xello’s content management workflows and product experiences. The position is fully remote and open to candidates located in Canada.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain CMS‑related systems supporting structured content, internal workflows, publishing and product experiences.
• Participate in technical discussions, feature design and implementation, handling both open‑ended problems and well‑defined tasks.
• Model, query and optimise relational data to ensure performance, scalability, maintainability and data integrity.
• Own the delivery of features from conception through production, adhering to agile timelines.
• Conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers and promote best practices.
• Improve development processes, unit and integration testing, build pipelines and engineering standards.
• Research and evaluate new technologies or approaches that could enhance Xello’s products.
• Recommend implementation strategies that balance quality, maintainability and delivery speed.
• Actively participate in scrum ceremonies and self‑manage assigned work.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience developing backend solutions for large‑scale applications.
• Strong hands‑on experience with SQL and backend coding.
• Deep understanding of data modelling, normalization, interface‑based development, design patterns and dependency injection.
• Solid knowledge of the .NET ecosystem, including .NET Framework up to version 6 and .NET Core.
• Proficiency in writing testable, clean and maintainable code following SOLID and DRY principles.
