Associate Student Recruitment Advisor

About the role

The Associate Student Recruitment Advisor provides advice on academic programs, admission criteria, scholarships, housing and student services to prospective students and their families. This role serves as the first point of contact, responding to in‑person, telephone and email inquiries.

Key responsibilities

• Represent UBC to prospective high school students, parents and counsellors across Canada.
• Communicate UBC’s mission, program admissibility, financial support, housing and other services.
• Advise prospective students on academic programs, application processes, registration, housing, awards, scholarships and extracurricular activities.
• Provide one‑on‑one appointments, telephone, email and web‑based guidance for students, families and counselors.
• Apply detailed knowledge of admission requirements and policies to assess eligibility and suggest next steps.
• Evaluate applicant profiles as part of the broader admissions process, including prerequisite studies and transfer credits.
• Triaging and scheduling academic advising appointments for prospective students.
• Collaborate with Student Recruiter‑Advisors, Admissions teams and other campus units to ensure coordinated communication.

Required profile

• Demonstrated willingness to respect diverse perspectives, even when they conflict with personal views.
• Commitment to enhancing personal awareness, knowledge and skills related to equity, diversity and inclusion.
• Minimum of one to two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (preferred).

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data management and reporting.
• Experience with content management systems for maintaining recruitment materials.
