Associate Physician – General Internal Medicine

About the role

The Associate Physician will join the General Internal Medicine (GIM) department at Red Deer Regional Health Centre, providing essential acute care coverage across all shifts. This position is part of Alberta's Associate Physicians Program designed for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) to transition into a permanent clinical role.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive patient care in a high‑acuity hospital setting.
• Provide clinical and/or surgical coverage during days, evenings, nights, and weekends on a rotating schedule.
• Participate in a six‑month assessment and evaluation program leading to a full‑time permanent role.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care.

Required profile

• Landed immigrant (Permanent Resident) or Canadian citizen.
• Medical degree from a school listed in the FAIMER International Medical Directory.
• Completed an accredited orthopedic or general surgery residency with board certification.
• Passed the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination Part I (MCCQE1).
• English proficiency demonstrated by IELTS (minimum 7.0 in each component) within the past 24 months.
• Positive pre‑screening through the Provincial CA Screening program.
