Assistant Vice-President, Research Strategy and Services

About the role

The Assistant Vice‑President, Research Strategy and Services reports to the Vice‑President (Research & Innovation) and sits on McGill University’s senior leadership team. The role provides strategic and operational leadership for the university’s research development, sponsored research services and the full research funding lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the identification, development and execution of major institutional research initiatives and competitive funding programmes such as CFI, CERC, CFREF and NFRF.
• Oversee sponsored research services, including opportunity identification, proposal submission, agreement management and award administration across faculties, hospitals and research institutes.
• Develop and implement institutional policies, strategic research plans and performance metrics that enhance research excellence.
• Represent the university on internal and external committees and build partnerships with governments, funding agencies, industry and other research organisations.
• Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and continuous improvement of service delivery for research software, cloud and advanced computing resources.

Required profile

• Graduate degree with a proven record of senior leadership in research administration, strategy or development within a large, complex organization.
• Deep knowledge of the Canadian research funding landscape and experience managing major research initiatives and partnerships.
• Strong strategic thinking, relationship‑building and decision‑making abilities, with a track record of driving organisational effectiveness.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
