Assistant Superintendent – Rail Track Construction

About the role

The Assistant Superintendent will support the supervision and coordination of track‑work construction activities for Metrolinx’s GO Expansion program. Working on new track, station upgrades and infrastructure improvements, you will help ensure safe, on‑time delivery of high‑quality rail track systems.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Trackwork Manager in daily field operations, ensuring work complies with technical specifications, quality standards and project schedules.
• Support crews during installation, testing and commissioning of ballasted, non‑ballasted, direct‑fixation and embedded track systems.
• Participate in site inspections, progress tracking and preparation of reports for project leadership.
• Coordinate on‑site labor, equipment and materials to optimise resource utilisation.
• Monitor subcontractor performance, progress and contract compliance.
• Maintain project documentation, including as‑built records, quality logs and safety observations.
• Help develop and update construction schedules and track‑work sequencing.
• Collaborate with civil, stations, systems, signals and other disciplines for smooth field integration.

Required profile

• Minimum of 5 years experience in rail or heavy‑infrastructure track construction, installation or maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of track installation techniques such as alignment, geometry, tamping and welding.
• Familiarity with modern track construction equipment and quality‑control practices.
• Ability to work safely, communicate effectively and support subcontractor coordination.
