Assistant Cook

About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Cook to join the kitchen team at Homewood Health Centre in Guelph. You will support daily food preparation, help manage inventory, and ensure safe, high‑quality meals for patients and staff. This position works in a fast‑paced cafeteria and café environment.

Key responsibilities

• Determine portion sizes and associated costs for menu items.
• Plan menus and estimate food requirements to ensure proper stock levels.
• Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes according to recipes.
• Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances.
• Prepare special meals for patients as directed by the dietitian or chef.
• Inspect kitchen and food service areas to maintain cleanliness and safety standards.
• Train staff in food preparation, cooking techniques, and safe handling practices.
• Maintain inventory records of food, supplies, and equipment.
• Clean kitchen work areas and equipment at the end of each shift.
