AI Security Researcher

About the role

Huawei Canada has an immediate permanent opening for a Researcher. The AnShi Lab focuses on developing next‑generation gateway software architecture by prioritizing file security and software innovation.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with malware analysts and security stakeholders to define problem scope, labeling strategy, and evaluation methodology.
• Conduct industry and academic research and produce concise surveys and technical reports.
• Design and implement LLM, GNN, and ML approaches for malware and threat classification, such as family/behavior classification and malicious‑vs‑benign detection.
• Build scalable data pipelines for ingestion, preprocessing, deduplication, and dataset management.
• Drive end‑to‑end experimentation, including model training, calibration, benchmarking, error analysis, and iteration.
• Contribute to patents and publications, with optional travel to conferences.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related field, or equivalent research experience.
• Very strong foundation in LLM/AI/ML with solid mathematical understanding of transformers, representation learning, optimization, and evaluation.
• Strong programming and engineering skills, especially in Python and deep‑learning frameworks such as PyTorch or JAX, with emphasis on reproducible experimentation.
• Excellent teamwork and cross‑cultural communication, fluent in written and spoken English.
• Experience in malware analysis, reverse engineering, or cybersecurity analysis.
• Big‑data processing experience using technologies such as Spark, Ray, or distributed ETL pipelines.
• Knowledge of compilers (e.g., LLVM), operating systems, and low‑level programming in C, C++, or embedded C.
