Academic and Career Advisor

About the role

The Academic and Career Advisor joins a centralized team serving all students at the UBC Okanagan campus. Working closely with students from their first year through graduation, the Advisor helps them navigate academic pathways and develop career‑ready skills.

Key responsibilities

• Guide students in defining academic, personal, and professional goals and recommend appropriate courses and programs.
• Provide advice on work‑integrated learning, skill‑building opportunities, and career planning.
• Deliver job‑search strategies, labour‑market information, and career‑outcome data to current students and alumni.
• Develop and facilitate student‑engagement programming that enhances academic success and career readiness.
• Collaborate with Associate Deans, faculty directors, and other university staff to align advising services with institutional priorities.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in academic advising or career counseling within a post‑secondary environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build lasting relationships with diverse student populations.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a team under the supervision of the Manager, Academic & Career Advising.

Required skills

• Knowledge of university academic structures and program requirements.
• Familiarity with career development resources and labour‑market information tools.
