Utilities Operator I / II – Water & Wastewater Systems

About the role

The Operations Department is seeking motivated individuals to join the CVRD Utilities Division as Utilities Operator I or II. Reporting to the Manager – Utility Operations and supervised by the Senior Operator, you will ensure safe, efficient operation and routine maintenance of water, wastewater, drainage and street‑lighting systems.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain water distribution, wastewater collection, treatment and drainage infrastructure.
• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs.
• Support street‑lighting system operations.
• Participate in rotational on‑call duties for evenings and weekends as required.
• Maintain accurate records and comply with safety and environmental regulations.

Required profile

• Diploma in Water/Wastewater Management from a recognized institute.
• For Operator I: Level I Certificate of Competency (BC EOCP) and at least one year of co‑op experience.
• For Operator II: Three valid EOCP Level designations and three to five years of progressive municipal experience; backhoe experience is an asset.
• WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Confined Space Rescue certifications (provided), Level I First Aid, and a valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence.
