Transportation Operations Manager

About the role

The Transportation Operations Manager leads day‑to‑day terminal operations, ensuring safe and efficient delivery of transportation services to customers. This on‑site leader oversees people, equipment, and processes to meet service, safety, and performance goals while maintaining continuity during off‑site periods.

Key responsibilities

• Provide hands‑on leadership for drivers, dispatch, and warehouse teams.
• Act as primary escalation point for operational issues affecting service, safety, customers, or employees.
• Oversee driver scheduling, coverage planning, and verification of hours worked.
• Support dispatch operations, troubleshoot service disruptions, and resolve same‑day issues.
• Monitor service levels and customer commitments, taking corrective action when performance risks arise.
• Ensure performance goals are met across safety, quality, productivity, and people metrics.
• Promote and enforce health & safety standards, operational policies, and compliance requirements.
• Lead recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and performance management of terminal staff.
• Coordinate with internal partners to support equipment readiness, facility needs, and operational execution.
• Maintain clear, professional communication with employees, customers, and leadership.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of transportation industry experience in operations, dispatch, terminal leadership, or fleet management.
• Proven experience leading or supervising frontline teams in a fast‑paced environment.
• High school diploma required; post‑secondary education considered an asset.
• Strong leadership, decision‑making, and analytical abilities in real‑time operational settings.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
• Familiarity with Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) compliance.
• Understanding of dispatching processes.
