Supply Chain Category Lead – 12‑Month Contract

About the role

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Supply Chain Professional to act as a Category Lead for one of British Columbia's largest utility companies. This 12‑month contract role focuses on strategic sourcing, category management and stakeholder collaboration across engineering and infrastructure programs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement category and sourcing strategies that align with organisational objectives.
• Lead multi‑stage RFPs and RFIs, managing the end‑to‑end procurement process.
• Conduct supplier and market analysis to identify value‑creation opportunities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers and cross‑functional teams.
• Prepare business cases, leadership briefings and sourcing recommendations.
• Lead contract negotiations, supplier engagement and performance issue resolution.
• Provide expert guidance on sourcing best practices and category management.
• Analyse procurement data to support informed business decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in sourcing, category management or strategic procurement.
• Proven experience developing sourcing strategies and managing competitive procurement processes.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, relationship management and communication abilities.
• Excellent analytical, planning, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
• Self‑motivated, collaborative and comfortable in fast‑paced, ambiguous environments.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Strong business writing and executive briefing preparation.
