Staff Android OS Engineer - Infotainment

About the role

Join the Infotainment team at Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies as a Staff Android OS Engineer. You will work on the core Android Automotive OS that powers next‑generation Rivian and Volkswagen vehicles, focusing on foundational components, system tuning and security.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and customize core Android OS components, frameworks and services.
• Own the full software development lifecycle from requirements to quality assurance.
• Lead design reviews and collaborate on technical decisions with other engineers.
• Implement and optimise Hardware Abstraction Layers for vehicle‑specific hardware.
• Tune system performance, boot time, memory usage and overall stability.
• Integrate new features, debug complex system‑level issues and ensure robust ECU communication.
• Write and review performance‑critical code for inter‑process communication, memory management, security sandboxing, networking and power management.
• Work closely with hardware, infrastructure and application teams to enhance the vehicle software stack.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 8 years of experience developing on the Android platform.
• Strong expertise in C/C++ and Java/Kotlin programming.
• Demonstrated ability to design, implement and optimise low‑level system components.
