Sewage Pipelayer - Underground Construction

About the role

GS Construction is hiring a Sewage Pipelayer for underground infrastructure work, including storm, sanitary and water mains in municipal, commercial and residential land development projects. The position reports to the Foreman and involves preparing and installing underground sewer pipelines and water mains. Travel is required to various locations in the Edmonton region, and the employer provides transportation when the job site is outside the City of Edmonton.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and install underground sewer pipelines and water mains as required.
• Load, unload and transport construction materials.
• Align pipes during sewer pipeline construction and level earth to fine-grade specifications.
• Follow blueprint specifications and use laser levels, grade rods or transit levels to check pipe configuration and alignment.
• Ensure pipes meet specifications for bedding, grade and cover compaction.
• Follow company policies to protect overhead and underground utilities, property and equipment.
• Inspect joints where pipes are fitted together to ensure proper spacing.
• Bed and cover pipes with appropriate dirt or other material.
• Mentor and guide helpers and new employees.
• Comply with safety regulations and company rules and procedures.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of experience in a water and sewer construction setting.
• Specialization in laser levelling and aligning, and in deep underground utilities (storm, sanitary and water systems).
• Ability to work outdoors, underground and in confined spaces, in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment with tight deadlines and repetitive tasks.
• Manual dexterity, attention to detail and ability to handle heavy loads up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
• Own steel-toed safety boots.
• Basic English; must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.

What we offer

• Wage of $31-$42.50 per hour depending on skills and experience, with wage increases under company policy and a performance bonus.
• Seasonal, full-time schedule of 40 to 60 hours per week, weather dependent, with morning, day, weekend and overtime work.
