Sessional Lecturer – Early Modern Britain (HIS368H1-F)

About the role

The University of Toronto seeks a sessional lecturer to teach HIS368H1-F, an introductory course on the political, social, and religious history of early modern Britain (1485‑1660). The appointment runs from September 1 to December 31, 2026 and involves delivering two‑hour in‑person lectures each week.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a comprehensive syllabus and course materials aligned with the course description.
• Prepare and deliver weekly two‑hour lectures on early modern Britain.
• Mark assignments, exams, and provide timely feedback to students.
• Hold one hour of scheduled office hours each week for student support.
• Collaborate with department staff and adhere to campus policies.

Required profile

• Master of Arts in History or a closely related field (required).
• Demonstrated mastery of early modern British history, including the monarchy, Reformation, gender issues, and inter‑island relations.
• PhD in History is preferred.
• Evidence of superior undergraduate teaching ability.
• Prior experience teaching a similar course is highly desirable.
