Sessional Lecturer – Buddhism and Psychotherapy

About the role

The Faculty of Arts & Science at New College, University of Toronto, seeks a sessional lecturer to teach the interdisciplinary course BPM332H1S – Buddhism and Psychotherapy. The position runs from January 1, 2027 to May 6, 2027 and involves delivering in‑person lectures to an estimated 100 students.

Key responsibilities

• Design, prepare, and deliver weekly lectures (Monday 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.).
• Develop, administer, and grade assignments, tests, and exams.
• Calculate and submit final grades in a timely manner.
• Hold regular office hours to support student learning.
• Collaborate with teaching assistants (approximately 165 support hours).

Required profile

• Completed or near‑completed Ph.D. with a scholarly background in Buddhist Studies, Mindfulness, or the intersection of Buddhism and Psychology.
• Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level.
• Ability to integrate diverse therapeutic approaches (e.g., positive psychology, psychoanalysis, CBT, mindfulness meditation, Jungian psychology) with Buddhist teachings.
