Senior/Staff ML Training Optimization Engineer

About the role

Waabi is a leader in Physical AI, building technology for autonomous trucks and robotaxis. The team is expanding and seeks a senior engineer to advance the efficiency and stability of large‑scale machine‑learning training pipelines.

Key responsibilities

• Build standardized distributed training frameworks for both research and production.
• Profile model runtime and memory to identify performance bottlenecks.
• Evaluate emerging technologies such as custom CUDA kernels, quantization‑aware training, and compilation techniques for adoption.
• Collaborate with researchers and ML engineers to define best‑practice resource‑usage patterns.
• Create and improve tooling and dashboards to drive broad adoption of optimizations.

Required profile

• MS/PhD or Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of industry experience in Computer Science, Robotics, or related fields.
• Strong coding proficiency in Python and at least one of C++ or Rust.
• Experience with deep‑learning frameworks such as PyTorch or Jax.
• Skilled in profiling CPU/GPU code using tools like PyTorch Profiler and NVIDIA Nsight.
• Open‑minded, collaborative team player willing to help others.
• Passion for self‑driving technologies and solving hard problems.
