Senior Motion Graphics Designer – Independent Contractor

About the role

Scarab Digital is seeking a senior motion graphics designer to work as an independent contractor on active film and television productions. The role blends hands‑on design and animation with visual direction, mentorship, and the ability to tackle the most complex builds while keeping the story front‑and‑center.

Key responsibilities

• Design and animate intricate UI/FUI and on‑screen graphics systems for film and TV, including phones, text conversations, dashboards, and speculative interfaces.
• Shape, clarify, and elevate artistic direction in collaboration with producers, directors, and other creatives.
• Interpret early‑stage vision briefs, translate abstract ideas into actionable systems, and provide clear visual guidance using sketches, motion studies, and mock‑ups.
• Take ownership of the most challenging builds, offering stronger direction, judgment, and execution when needed.
• Mentor junior designers through direct feedback, practical support, and high‑standard examples.

• Demonstrates refined taste, knows when to push boundaries and when to simplify for story clarity.

Required skills

• Expert proficiency in After Effects, Illustrator, Protopie, Figma, Cinema 4D, and Photoshop.
• Strong design fundamentals across typography, layout, composition, color, rhythm, and motion.
• Proven portfolio of motion graphics work for film, television, games, or comparable narrative interfaces.
