Senior Financial Specialist (Grade 1a)

About the role

The Faculty of Applied Science at UBC is launching a Shared Service Centre (SSC) to centralise finance, HR, and other support functions. The Senior Financial Specialist (Grade 1a) will initially support the Department of Materials Engineering and later transition to the SSC, providing consistent, high‑quality financial services across multiple academic units.

Key responsibilities

• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for the Department of Materials Engineering and other units as the SSC expands.
• Ensure compliance with university policies, external regulations, and funding agreements.
• Support the preparation of financial statements, variance analyses, and audit documentation.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to resolve financial queries and improve processes.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of centralized financial procedures within the SSC.

Required profile

• University degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
• Significant experience in financial management, preferably in a higher‑education or research environment.
• Strong knowledge of budgeting, reporting, and compliance standards.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.
