Senior Engineer – Environmental Stewardship

About the role

The Manitoba Government’s Environmental Stewardship Division is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the management of environmental liabilities associated with orphaned and abandoned mines and contaminated sites. This full‑time, fixed‑term position (until March 2027) will directly influence the province’s air, land, water and community health.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement engineering strategies to address orphaned mine and contaminated‑site liabilities.
• Secure approvals from regulatory authorities for remediation plans.
• Procure specialised engineering consulting and construction services.
• Oversee investigations, assessments, design, planning and execution of remediation works.
• Monitor and report on the financial and environmental outcomes of remediation programs.

Required profile

• Professional engineering licence (P.Eng.) in a relevant discipline.
• Significant experience (5+ years) in environmental engineering, remediation or related fields.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong communication skills for stakeholder engagement and regulatory negotiations.
