Research Assistant / Technician 3

About the role

The Dr. Parker Laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at UBC is seeking a full‑time Research Assistant/Technician 3 to support ongoing biomedical research projects.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, perform and troubleshoot complex experiments, collect and analyse data, and present results at lab meetings.
• Assist senior staff in experimental design and development of new laboratory techniques.
• Maintain laboratory supplies, set up and operate equipment, and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
• Provide training to undergraduate students and junior technicians on equipment and procedures.
• Conduct animal procedures such as catheterizations, necropsies, blood sampling and minor surgeries.
• Perform field sampling and analysis for multiple research projects.
• Prepare reports and contribute to grant writing.

Required profile

• Completion of a relevant technical program or university degree with at least three years of related laboratory experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
• Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Required skills

• Operation and maintenance of common laboratory equipment.
• Animal surgery techniques including catheterization, necropsy and blood sampling.
• Field sampling and analytical methods.
• Experiment design, data collection and statistical analysis.
