Registered Nurse (RN) – Casual

About the role

The Salvation Army is seeking a Casual Registered Nurse (RN) to provide professional nursing care to residents in a long‑term care setting. The RN will act as Nurse in Charge during assigned shifts, offering clinical leadership and ensuring safe, high‑quality care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and continuously evaluate resident conditions.
• Develop, implement, and review individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists and the interdisciplinary team.
• Supervise Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) and Personal Support Workers (PSWs) during shifts.
• Administer medications and treatments safely, monitor therapeutic and adverse effects, and manage narcotic and controlled substance counts.
• Document all clinical activities, assessments, care plans and monitoring records accurately in PointClickCare.
• Participate in admissions, transfers, discharges and care conferences, including palliative and end‑of‑life care.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control protocols, emergency response procedures and incident follow‑up.

Required profile

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
• Experience working in long‑term care or similar residential health settings.
• Ability to act as Nurse in Charge, providing supervision and clinical leadership.
• Knowledge of the Long‑Term Care Act, CNO standards and best practice guidelines.
• Strong communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration.
