Project Engineer – Structural Design & Detailing

About the role

Wood Rodgers is seeking a Project Engineer to join its Structures Department in Sacramento. You will work on a diverse portfolio of civil infrastructure and commercial building projects, applying your structural design expertise while collaborating with architects, engineers, and clients.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and design a variety of structures, including storm‑drainage pump stations, culverts, water conveyance facilities, storage tanks, retaining walls, and commercial buildings.
• Serve as a primary or support engineer on technical designs and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Conduct field reviews and site observations of existing and new structures.
• Utilize and direct the use of CAD and analysis software; develop computer‑based processes to compile engineering data.
• Monitor project tasks, communicate with internal teams, clients, and external consultants to ensure timely completion.
• Assist in preparing project proposals and technical reports.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and revision of engineering design and drafting standards.

Required profile

• 5‑11+ years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years performing the duties listed.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master’s degree is a plus.
• Ability to interpret geotechnical and hydraulic data and review technical reports.
• Strong independent work ethic and clear verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
• Collaborative, proactive approach to problem solving across multiple projects.
