Principal Engineer – Geotechnical (Full-Time)

About the role

Wood Rodgers is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead its Geotechnical Department in Sacramento. The senior professional will oversee a diverse portfolio of water‑resource, landslide, transportation and public‑works projects, ensuring technical excellence and client satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain internal and external client relationships through regular meetings.
• Prepare scope and fee estimates in response to RFPs.
• Perform engineering analyses using company and industry standards.
• Provide direction and training to engineering staff in exploration, sampling, testing and report writing.
• Plan and execute field investigation programs and prepare geotechnical reports and technical memoranda.
• Review PS&E packages for compliance with geotechnical report requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geology; Master’s preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in California.
• 15+ years of geotechnical engineering experience, including field investigations and report preparation.
• Proven project and client management experience and ability to lead staff.
