Physiatrist – Rehabilitation Medicine (Nanaimo)

About the role

The Island Health Division of Rehabilitation Medicine is seeking a General Physiatrist to join a multidisciplinary team of six physicians. Based at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, the role focuses on consultative and directive care for patients with neurological conditions, post‑traumatic injuries, and amputations, across both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive physiatry consultations for in‑patient intensive rehabilitation, slow‑stream, and transitional units.
• Collaborate with a full spectrum of medical, surgical, and psychiatric specialists on‑site.
• Utilize diagnostic imaging services (X‑ray, CT, MRI, sonography, nuclear medicine) to inform treatment plans.
• Perform epidural and facet injection procedures as needed.
• Deliver care without night call responsibilities.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
• Experience or strong interest in neurological, post‑traumatic, and amputation rehabilitation.
• Ability to work in a hospital‑based environment and manage outpatient clinics.
• Excellent collaborative skills to work with diverse specialist teams.
