Peer Coordinator (Casual) – NCAT

About the role

The Peer Coordinator supports peer leadership, engagement, and harm‑reduction activities for the Nanaimo Community Action Team (CAT). Working closely with people impacted by the toxic drug supply, the role builds trusted relationships and elevates lived‑experience perspectives to guide community‑led responses.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain trust‑based relationships with individuals affected by the toxic drug supply and conduct outreach to identify emerging needs.
• Participate in monthly CAT meetings, contribute peer‑informed insights, and coordinate Peer Advisory meetings.
• Manage peer compensation, including stipends, and keep accurate records of payments and expenses.
• Support overdose prevention, distribute harm‑reduction supplies, and share accurate information on drug toxicity risks.
• Maintain documentation of peer engagement activities, contribute to reporting, and identify advocacy priorities.

Required profile

• Lived or living experience related to substance use and/or the toxic drug crisis (strongly preferred).
• Experience in peer support, harm‑reduction outreach, or community‑based work.
• Knowledge of harm‑reduction, trauma‑informed practice, and equity‑based approaches.
• Strong communication, relationship‑building, and organizational skills.
• No formal education requirements; lived experience is essential.
