Payroll Manager

About the role

Classic Fire + Life Safety (CFLS) is seeking a results‑focused Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations for approximately 850 employees across Canada. The role ensures accurate, timely payroll processing while maintaining compliance with federal, provincial and collective bargaining requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a payroll team to execute full‑cycle weekly payroll for unionized, non‑union, and salaried staff.
• Apply pay rules, overtime, shift premiums, travel pay, union dues, benefits and statutory deductions.
• Oversee payroll reconciliations, journal entries and coordinate with Finance for labour costing and GL accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with collective agreements, wage rate changes and dues remittances.
• Handle employee tax, benefit and compliance calculations and payments.
• Lead year‑end activities including T4/RL‑1 preparation, reconciliations and government filings.
• Drive system and process improvement initiatives and lead post‑acquisition payroll and HRIS integrations.

Required profile

• Detail‑oriented professional with strong collaboration and project‑management abilities.
• Experience managing payroll in a multi‑entity, multi‑union environment.
• Proven leadership skills to coach and develop payroll staff.
• Ability to navigate complex collective bargaining agreements and regulatory requirements.
