Patient Partner – Volunteer Role

About the role

The Patient Partner Council (PPC) and the Wellington Healthcare Engagement Network (WHEN) seek volunteers to represent patients, families, caregivers, and community members. As a Patient Partner you will help shape policies, programs, and quality‑improvement initiatives across WHCA hospitals.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in improvement activities in person, by telephone, or email, providing feedback to co‑design care improvements.
• Offer respectful, insightful suggestions in a safe environment.
• Assist with developing new practices focused on patients and families.
• Maintain privacy and confidentiality of patient and organizational information.
• Commit to a two‑year term, attending 9‑10 meetings per year (July/August excluded).
• Attend monthly 2‑hour meetings (4th Tuesday, 3‑5 PM) held both in‑person and virtually across three sites.

Required profile

• Experience as a patient, family member, or caregiver at one of the WHCA hospitals.
• Interest in improving patient and family experiences.
• Age 18 years or older.
• Respect for diversity, privacy, and confidentiality.
• Ability to think broadly about healthcare and collaborate with staff and the public.
• Willingness to consider multiple solutions and support group recommendations.
