Parks Maintainer

About the role

The Parks Maintainer joins the Town of Whitby’s Public Works team to preserve and enhance park facilities for a growing community. Reporting to the Supervisor of Operations (Parks), the role blends hands‑on repair work with customer service and safety responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Renovate and repair park structures such as field houses, playground equipment, and other amenities using carpentry, plumbing, welding, and concrete skills.
• Install new play equipment, conduct seasonal tasks (event set‑ups, snow and ice removal), and perform minor equipment maintenance.
• Provide excellent customer service by responding to public inquiries and reporting on playground conditions.
• Operate tools and equipment safely, conduct equipment checks, and ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations.

Required profile

• Self‑motivated, solutions‑oriented team member with clear verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, applying sound judgment and discretion.
• Physically fit to perform strenuous labour, including lifting up to 50 lb in varying weather.

Required skills

• Carpentry, plumbing, welding, and concrete work.
• Installation of playground equipment.
• Operation of heavy vehicles (Class “DZ” licence) and defensive driving.
• Registered Playground Practitioner Certification.
• Current Standard First Aid, CPR‑C, and AED certification.
