Palliative Care Physician – Port Alberni, BC

About the role

The Palliative Care Physician Group in Island Health is seeking a part‑time or full‑time physician to deliver comprehensive palliative care across a variety of settings in Port Alberni, BC. You will work in hospital, hospice, outpatient clinics and patients’ homes, supporting individuals and families throughout the region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide palliative‑care consults and follow‑ups at West Coast General Hospital and the 4‑bed Ty Watson House hospice.
• Conduct outpatient and home‑visit consults throughout Port Alberni and occasional outreach to Tofino/Ucluelet (driver’s licence and vehicle required).
• Participate in the rural & remote on‑call schedule for palliative‑care emergencies.
• Teach and supervise medical learners, requiring eligibility for a faculty appointment with UBC.

Required profile

• Medical licence to practice in British Columbia.
• Eligibility for faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia.
• Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for community visits.

• Potential additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement, including a $10,000 recruitment incentive, 7.98% fee premium and an annual flat fee of $12,110.22.
• Rural CME funding starting at $2,200 per year (increasing to $4,400 after four years).
• Relocation assistance up to $15,000.
• Retention premium and flat fee similar to recruitment incentives.
