Medical Doctor – Full‑time, Nanaimo

About the role

Island Health is seeking a full‑time Medical Doctor to join its multidisciplinary team in Nanaimo, BC. The physician will deliver comprehensive, patient‑centered care across a diverse community, ensuring safe and evidence‑based treatment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct patient assessments, diagnose conditions, and develop treatment plans.
• Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests.
• Manage a caseload while collaborating with interdisciplinary care teams.
• Document clinical encounters in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Educate patients and families on health conditions, preventive care, and treatment options.
• Participate in care coordination, follow‑up, and quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to clinical teaching and continuous professional development activities.

Required profile

• Current MD or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
• Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
• Certification in Family Medicine or a relevant specialty (e.g., internal medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics) in good standing.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to work with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to evidence‑based practice, patient safety, and continuous quality improvement.
• Interest in community‑based care and serving rural or underserved populations is an asset.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
• CPR/BLS certification.
