Marine Safety Instructor (On‑Call)

About the role

The Offshore Safety & Survival Centre (OSSC) at the Marine Institute is seeking experienced marine professionals to deliver theoretical and practical instruction for offshore and industrial emergency response courses. This on‑call contractual position involves classroom teaching and hands‑on training across multiple locations in Newfoundland & Labrador and the North.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver classroom instruction and practical demonstrations in firefighting, marine survival, and rescue craft operations.
• Supervise live‑fire evolutions, open‑water exercises, and fast rescue boat drills, ensuring participant safety and risk‑management compliance.
• Develop and update course materials in line with governing standards and the OSSC Integrated Management System.
• Perform administrative duties related to course planning, documentation, and reporting.
• Provide supervision and life‑safety oversight during all practical exercises.

Required profile

• Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience in a marine or offshore environment.
• Three (3) year diploma or approved equivalent.
• Valid Transport Canada Marine medical certification.
• Current Transport Canada Marine Emergency Duties (MED) certificate and/or Basic Survival Training (BST) certificate.
• Ability to work safely in and around aquatic environments.
• Preference for candidates with teaching experience and additional Transport Canada competency certificates.
